The Louisiana seafood industry is facing uncertainty after an offshore oil spill caused widespread oyster closures in Terrebonne Bay. The spill, known as Offshore Oil Port as LOOP, released more than 30,000 gallons of crude oil into the Gulf of the GULF. State health officials have closed more than 160 square miles of oyster harvesting areas and have closed over 2,400 private public seed grounds from the spill. The company, which has been in business for 45 years, apologizes to the community and committed to addressing its impact. The oil spill occurred on Feb. 26 near Port Fourchon, Louisiana, and led to major oyster closure across several coastal areas. Concerns are growing around Louisiana's coast, with state health officials stating that there is no clear timeline for the clean-up.
