The controversial AI data center in Independence has sparked a recall effort against 1st District Councilman John Perkins. Organizer, McKenna Cobb, believes Perkins failed to educate his constituents about the facility before casting a yes vote in favor of it. The city clerk has certified petition language to recall Perkins. Cobb plans to pass out petitions to volunteers to get the recall on the ballot. The recall vote could be held in either August or November. The Professional Firefighters Union of Independence has issued a statement supporting Perkins.
