Orland High School District 230 board member Mohammed Jaber has resigned due to resistance to his proposal to add Arabic as a world language in the district’s curriculum. Jaber was elected to the board in 2023 and spent three years pushing for Arabic to be added. He expressed frustration that progress had not been made on the plan, which the board delayed voting on in January. School board President Lynn Zeder stated that the vetting process for the curriculum is currently underway and several key decisions need to be evaluated. The District 230 is accepting applications to fill Jaber's position until April 6.
