The UK's largest crane population was born in 2025, with 87 pairs breeding and raising 37 young cranes, bringing the total population to around 250. The species went extinct around 400 years ago due to the loss of their wetland habitat and over-hunting. The crane is known for its complex courtship displays and loud calls.
