The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is proposing to study microplastics and pharmaceuticals for potential drinking water limits. The move is seen as a win for the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, a group of voters skeptical of the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The EPA is adding these substances to its “Sixth Contaminant Candidate List” which could potentially lead to water utilities filtering them out of household taps. The announcement will be made by EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin alongside Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. The agency is also including other categories of chemicals on the list, including "forever chemicals" - a family of toxic substances that have become pervasive in drinking water and the environment.
