India eyes alternative energy supplies amid Strait of Hormuz disruption

The Indian government is monitoring the situation closely and is confident that if one source closes, another one will open. The country processes about 5.6 million barrels per day of crude, with about 40% of its imports passing through the Strait of Hormuz. The government has not specified whether it will increase purchases of Russian oil from the country. The oil industry has been reducing purchases in recent months to avoid punitive tariffs by President Donald Trump and help New Delhi secure an interim trade deal with Washington.
