Madrid loses cherished community pillar as newspaper ceases after over 100 years

The Madrid Register, a newspaper that has been publishing for over 100 years, has been discontinued following the closure of Mid-America Publishing, which shut down over a dozen small-town newspapers. Residents of Madrid, Iowa, feel the loss of this integral part of their community. Ken Williams, who previously ran the Madrid Register with his wife, Jennifer, said it felt like the end of an era as the paper was a significant part of the community. The Madrid Historical Society also expressed their appreciation for the paper's importance and pride. It is unclear whether another publisher will pick up the Madrid Express.
