The iconic highway, known as "the mother road, the road of flight," was created to connect people and explore vast landscapes. Despite being decommissioned in 1985, the 2,000-mile stretch of the road continues to inspire. The Chicago Tribune explored the remnants of the highway in an attempt to discover its stories.
