Texas Senator Ted Cruz is proposing a law that prevents the government from expanding Muleshoe Wildlife Refuge in 2022. The Fish and Wildlife Service plans to expand the refuge from 6,440 acres to up to 700,000 acres, which would involve handing over a significant portion of Texas land to the federal government. The proposed Land Protection Plan aims to protect wildlife. In 2025, Rep. Jodey Arrington proposed the No Fetsu in West Texas Act, which effectively bans the Secretary of the Interior from implementing the expansion, failed to pass the House due to Democrat opposition. Senator Cruz also addressed concerns about land usage for data centers, stating that if the landowner chooses to lease or sell your land to put a data center on it, it is your right.
