The San Diego County Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to proceed with an evaluation of County Medical Services (CMS), a program that serves low-income residents who can't afford insurance and don't qualify for Medi-Cal. An ad-hoc subcommittee will work with community members to develop reforms to CMS, which includes adjusting eligibility standards and reviewing the impact of cost-sharing requirements on patient access. The reforms will be presented to the board within 60 days after the fiscal year 2026-27 budget is adopted. However, Supervisor Jim Desmond voted no due to the lack of thorough process and transparency.
