The newly-approved Texas Education Freedom Accounts (TEFA) accounts can be used to fund therapy as well as tuition for students under the Tier 1 category approved for students with a documented disability or those living at or below 500 percent of the federal poverty level or were siblings of a qualifying family member. Students with disabilities can use the funds for educational therapies not covered by any federal, state, or local government benefits (i.e., Medicaid). These providers must be found through the state’s Odyssey portal, which tracks and verified every purchase. Coral Care, one of the approved platforms, is one of these platforms. The company matches families with licensed providers for at-home, specialty care for a child's needs and operates as a marketplace where parents can search for local therapists. Part of the funds will be released on July 1, but Wirt encourages families to establish a provider now.
