A major reconstruction project to address deteriorating railroad bridges in downtown Elyria is set to begin in early 2027. The project involves the complete removal and reconstruction of the East Bridge structure, replacing the bridge overpass, piers, sidewalks, and shifting the center pier slightly east. The work will go out for bid as early as late May, with a potential contract potentially awarded in June. The cost of the project is unknown. During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane at times and a full closure of the roadway is expected.
