Kenai girls open 3A state basketball tournament with win over Mt. Edgecumbe

The sixth-seeded Kenai Central girls team won 43-40 over Mt. Edgecumbe in the first quarterfinals of the 2026 ASAA 3A state championship tournament. The victory came at the Alaska Airlines Center after a strong performance from the team, which had previously beaten them twice in the regular season. Head coach Jacob Songer credits his team's preparation for the game, which started at 8 a.m. and began the game with a 9-0 run from Lucy Capelle. The team was led by freshman Maci Miller, who scored 21 points in her state basketball debut.
