Scientists from the H0 Distance Network (H0DN) Collaboration have found that the universe is expanding far faster than previously thought, with a rate of 73.5 kilometers per second per 3.26 million light-years. This difference is significant as the speed at which we used to think the universe was expanding was closer to 67.5. The researchers combined nearly all methods of measuring cosmic distances into a single measurement using the cosmic distance ladder. The team found that this discrepancy is beyond what could be attributed to chance or technical error. If correct, this could lead to significant gaps in our understanding of various types of space phenomena.
