Bloomington to end contract for Flock license plate readers

Bloomington, Indiana, is ending its contract with Flock license plate readers following a monthslong evaluation. The city will instead consider other technologies that balance public safety needs with privacy protections, transparency, accountability and public trust. The contract with the system expired on March 5. During this transition period, only Bloomington Police Department, not outside agencies, will be allowed to access the Flock data. The system does not contain, collect or reveal vehicle registration information, nor create profiles based on personal traits or demographic information. The review also considered documented examples of how the department solved cases using Flock.
