Ollama is supercharged by MLX's unified memory use on Apple Silicon

Apple has introduced MLX on Apple Silicon to enhance the speed of machine learning researchers using Ollama, an open-source tool that allows for large language models (LLMs) processing. MLX is an open source project from Apple that handles networking between multiple Macs and distributes processing across devices. This allows for greater processing efficiency and bandwidth usage, particularly on the M5 generation of chips. The change allows Ollam to use Apple's machine learning framework and leverage the Neural Accelerators inside each GPU core to accelerate processing. However, not everyone will immediately benefit from this change as it is offered in a preview, not a generally released update.
