The World Baseball Classic final is set to take place at loanDepot park in Miami, with Team USA turning to New York Mets righty Nolan McLean in the championship game against Venezuela. This is the third consecutive title game for the United States, which only won the WBC in 2017. Venezuela, which beat Italy 4-2 in the second semifinal, is in its first final. This event has been a distraction from spring training, as the first game of the MLB regular season is only eight days away. McLean was a late-season call-up for the Mets last year and has a 2.06 ERA and 196 ERA+ in 48 regular-season innings. Reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes started the semifinal win over the Dominican Republic, but is not expected to be available for an inning of relief.
