United flight landing in Newark strikes pole on New Jersey Turnpike, damages H&S Bakery delivery truck

A United Airlines passenger jet carrying 221 passengers from Venice, Italy, struck a light pole on the New Jersey Turnpike as it was preparing to land at Newark Liberty International Airport. The plane also hit a truck and the light pole then struck a Jeep on the highway. No passengers or crew were injured in the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed that the Boeing 767 aircraft landed safely after coming into contact with the pole on its final approach to Newark. The crew was removed from service while United conducted a thorough flight safety investigation. The National Transportation Safety Board also ordered United to provide the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder for the investigation.
