One Piece's Chopper actor, Mikaela Hoover, initially rejected the role after initially thinking it was a voice-only role. However, after rereading the script, she discovered she would physically embody the character of the Straw Hats doctor, who can transform into a towering figure due to eating a Devil Fruit. The role was similar to that of legendary actor Andy Serkis, who pioneered performance capture with the likes of Gollum in The Lord of the Rings and Caesar in the Planet of the Apes.
