Scientists from the Mayo Clinic and Wayne State University have discovered a potential drug combo that may supercharge weight-loss treatments for older women. The study, which involved 120 women, found that after 15 months of treatment, participants who were also using menopausal hormone therapy experienced 35 percent more total bodyweight loss than those not using hormone therapy. The researchers are now planning to conduct controlled, randomized studies to confirm the apparent drug synergy. Menopause hormone therapy can be used to manage physical symptoms such as fatigue, hot flashes, night sweats, poor sleep, and low libido, but it is unclear if it may promote weight loss.
