The Southern California News Group has compiled a questionnaire to select candidates for the 2026 primary election. The questions cover various issues impacting Californians, including housing, homelessness and healthcare. Candidates were asked to explain their top three issues, which include upzoning all of Los Angeles, and healthcare for All. They also suggested that a federal response to homelessness is the only proven solution, with $10 billion proposed for Los Angeles to build 25,000 units of permanent supportive housing in the next three years. They recommended copying Germany and Japan where employee and employer pay 8% of employee’s wages to the national healthcare fund, and calling it AmeriCare. They proposed open, nonpartisan primaries decided by ranked choice voting (RCV) or STAR voting, which would remove political parties from state apparatus of elections, and expanding the size of the House of Representatives from 435 districts to 1,491. They suggested that the federal government should also place priority priority on immigration policy, particularly on border security, asylum seekers, and immigration.
