A group of rural Ohioans are pushing for a constitutional amendment to block the construction of data centers larger than 25 megawatts across the state. The proposal is being supported by supporters who believe communities are being left in the dark about large-scale projects. Industry leaders argue that these facilities are crucial to Ohio's economic future. The group has submitted roughly 1,800 signatures to the Ohio Attorney General's office and has until July to collect about 413,000 valid signatures to place the amendment before voters in November. However, business leaders and some local officials warn that banning large data centers could undermine a rapidly growing sector of Ohio's economy.
