Retired NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore and colleague Sunita Williams were stranded in space for 286 days during their mission from 2024 to the International Space Station due to mechanical issues. Their Boeing craft experienced mechanical issues and they were able to safely dock at the ISS with five thrusters used for acceleration. Despite the inconvenience, Wilmore never expressed frustration in dealing with this delay. He and Williams returned to Earth last March after a nine-month stay on the ISS due to the issues. The incident occurred just over a year after their return from space. Despite their ordeal, Butch and Sunita remained committed to the mission and their families, despite the inconvenience. The situation was resolved after two months of uncertainty over whether the Starliner would be fit for a return to space.
