DeSantis signs election law; NFL responds to Uthmeier

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a controversial elections bill, the Florida SAVE Act, which is designed to mirror the federal SAVE America Act. The law requires paper ballots and requires proof of citizenship to vote, including birth certificates, passports and REAL IDs. Critics argue that the bill burdens students, senior citizens, and low-income voters who may lack the documents needed. The ACLU and Common Cause are among the groups suing to block the new law. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier is demanding that the National Football League change its race-based hiring practice, specifically the Rooney Rule, which he claims violates state civil rights laws. Despite threats of legal action, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell maintains that the rule is lawful and beneficial.
