Denver Summit FC, the women's soccer team, lost 3-2 to the NWSL-leading San Diego Wave. This was the first time in years that Nick Cushing and Emma Hayes had faced off without a league title. Hayes, the coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team, remained in Denver following her team's 3-0 win over Japan. Despite a strong performance from San Diego, Summit FC fell victim to a strong comeback against the Wave. Cushing, who previously coached Manchester City's women's team, said the team's progress will be determined down the road by how they respond to adversity.
