Desert Warrior, Anthony Mackie's Saudi Arabian epic, starring Mackie and Ben Kingsley, has been a hit and miss at the box office, with its performance in the U.S. and Middle East being billed as one of the biggest box office flops in history. The film, set up at Riyadh media giant MBC Group and acquired by Vertical, has grossed $596,000 on 1,010 screens in the US and Middle Eastern markets, but it is unlikely to recoup its $150M budget. Despite this, Vertical is said to be particularly focused on premium video on demand, following similar tactics with films like Elevation and Elevation. Despite these setbacks, industry sources suggest that it is likely that Vertical will profit from all theatrical and home entertainment revenue once all theatrical, and home Entertainment revenue is counted. The movie grossed only $87,000 from 6,100 admissions in Saudi Arabia over its opening weekend.
