Southeast Asian leaders are meeting to discuss a contingency plan to mitigate the impact on their people and economies from the Iran war. The decision was made to focus discussions on ensuring stable fuel and food supplies for the growing region, which imports most of its oil and gas from the Middle East. The Philippines' President, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has ordered the summit to be reduced due to economic headwinds. The contingency plan includes large-scale evacuations from the region if hostilities resume. Thailand's foreign minister, Sihasak Phuangketkeow, called for an indefinitely extended ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran. Despite the focus on the Middle Eastern, the leaders will also address regional issues such as South China Sea territorial disputes, a five-year civil war in Myanmar, and a recent border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia.
