Josh Lipowsky and Stephanie Hausner from Teaneck, New Jersey, were trapped in an Israeli bomb shelter during the weekend during a war between the United States and Israel. The couple, who were visiting for a conference and the Tel Aviv Marathon, spent the time racing to and from a shelter two stories below their Tel Aviv hotel to escape Iranian missiles. The timing of the conflict coincided with Purim, which commemorates the Jewish people's victory over a plot to destroy them 2,400 years ago in ancient Persia. The pair posted updates on social feeds, sharing their retreats to the underground shelter and bonding with newfound friends following the war. They also shared photos of their experiences. The death toll in Iran has risen to an estimated 555, with four American service members also killed following an Iranian missile attack on a U.S. base in Kuwait.
