Sports betting has become increasingly popular across the United States, with 39 states, including Washington D.C., offering some form of legalized U.S. sports betting. However, not all states have yet legalized it. The most recent attempt to legalize sports betting in Alaska, HB 145, was introduced on March 21, 2025, but there has been no forward motion or vote on the bill as of December 2025. Other states include Arizona, Arizona, and Colorado, where both retail and online sports betting are available. Delaware became the first state outside of Nevada to legalize sport betting, launching retail betting on July 5, 2018, and adding online in December 26, 2023. In California, multiple bills to legalize have failed, including two major bills on the November 2022 ballot. Georgia is not legal, and there have been no proposed sports betting legislation in Idaho as of 2025. Iowa is allowed to gamble on professional and collegiate games, but placing player prop bets on collegiate athletes is strictly prohibited.
