Afghans who served with U.S. forces fear that President Trump may return them to the Taliban. The arrival of Afghan allies to the U.K. had already slowed due to changes in the Trump administration's immigration system, following a shooting in Washington that killed one National Guard member and seriously injured another. The suspect, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is an Afghan national who served alongside US troops in Afghanistan and was granted asylum by the Trump Administration last year. The Trump administration imposed harsher restrictions on Afghans after the attack, halting asylum decisions, suspending visa issuance for all Afghan nationals, and moving to detain refugees already in the country. Refugees and Afghan nationals have been delayed indefinitely due to the uncertainty surrounding their future in the U., with refugee resettlement halted and their entry barred from entering the country due to President Trump's return.
