A Florida man lost over $450,000 in a scam that included six different counties across the state and as far as Massachusetts. The scam was discovered by members of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier led a team that recovered the largest amount of cryptocurrency ever recovered in a statewide operation. The victims will receive $700,000 of the stolen funds, $1.3 million of which will be returned to Florida victims. Uthme also highlighted the vulnerability of cyber scammers targeting older citizens and their vulnerability. The remaining funds will be used to fund law enforcement operations.
