Mercedes-Benz is adding steer-by-wire technology to its forthcoming EQS sedan, marking its first foray into steer-based steering. The new system replaces traditional mechanical steering mechanisms with electronically controlled servos, a system used in airplanes. The company also includes a new steering yoke, similar to something similar to a race car or plane cockpit. However, Mercedes has stated it will not abandon electromechanical steering completely and will ship versions of the EQS with traditional steering technology in addition to models with steer-on-wire. Early reviews have been positive, with some praising the new yoke as a "steering yoke that actually works" and others praising its flatter steering wheel.
