British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that the West's response to the crisis in the Strait of Hormuz will be heavy on diplomacy and light on hard power. This stance is already causing frustration for President Trump as the US seeks partners to secure the global shipping lane. Starmer announced a virtual summit to unite efforts to reopen the strait, bringing together 35 countries, with meetings planned in the coming days to explore options. This comes after President Trump criticised both Britain and France for their snubbing of US efforts in the war over a series of Truth Social posts, accusing London of failing to participate in the decapitation of Iran and Paris for refusing to let military supplies "fly over French territory". France has also hosted discussions with counterparts interested in restoring freedom of navigation in the straits.
