The Trump administration is seeking additional funds for the nation's nuclear weapons programs, with a 12% increase in funding for the fiscal year 2027. The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), responsible for the country's nuclear stockpile, would receive $53.9 billion, more than 60% of which is allocated to the NNSA. The Office of Environmental Management, which manages nuclear waste at test and research facilities, would also receive $8.2 billion under the proposed budget. The budget also includes cuts to funding for development of new warheads, modernize NNSA’s supporting infrastructure and extend the life of existing warheads. The NNSA has not responded to questions about the budget and cleanup efforts.
