The partial government shutdown affecting the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is in its second month as lawmakers fail to reach an agreement over funding for the department. Democrats are refusing to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations (ICE) operations under the DHS umbrella, unless concessions are made regarding operational changes following the death of two U.S. citizens at the hands of ICE agents in Minneapolis. The Atlanta airport expects nearly 350,000 passengers between Thursday and Sunday, with some flights cancelled or delayed due to delays and long security lines. The city of Atlanta is offering free MARTA passes and meal vouchers to help alleviate some of the financial burden. As of Friday afternoon, TSA PreCheck remains open, though it could close at various times due to the shortage of agents. If passengers miss their flights due to this, airlines are not required to issue a refund as the airport is not under their jurisdiction of the airline.
