The rise of OpenClaw, the open-source agentic AI framework, has seen a surge in AI taking over desktop apps and running on them, with companies like Anthropic and OpenAI expanding their capabilities. Anthropic is leading the way in this transformation of the Claude app into a command center, offering agent-coordinating tools for coding (Claude Code) and your desktop (Charlude Cowork). The company has shipped Claude Dispatch, which can remotely control Claude desktop agents from the Claude mobile app, and Claude Channels, which allows users to communicate with agentic Claude Code sessions via Discord and Telegram. Meanwhile, OpenAI is reportedly working on a desktop “superapp” that integrates ChatGPT with Codex, the OpenAI’s agentic coding app and the Atlas AI browser. This move has left Google and Open AI scrambling to catch up, with Google reportedly testing a desktop app for Gemini, starting on the Mac side first. This is seen as a sign that more and more desktop apps are becoming increasingly focused on AI agents.
