New state law mandates review of Dominion’s load forecasting, following concerns from data centers about how fast the utility connects their industry to the grid. The State Corporation Commission has ordered a case to determine the company's rationale for timing when data centers connect to transmission lines. Major data companies, including Google, have expressed concerns about the process, claiming it is a safe method to ensure grid reliability and avoid stranded investment. The new law allows for a hearing on how utilities calculate the amount of load growth to ensure accurate forecasts. The bill also requires the SCC to coordinate with the regional grid operator PJM on examining forecast methods.
