New Data On Fatal Illinois Traffic Crashes Released By Feds

The number of traffic deaths in Illinois remained unchanged between 2024 and 2025, according to preliminary data from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that there will be an estimated 36,640 traffic deaths for 2025, a 6.7 percent decline from the previous year. The agency also revealed that of the 1,177 fatal crashes in 2025, 338 were alcohol-related.
