A female grizzly bear relocated to the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE) as part of a multi-state conservation effort has given birth to her first cubs since her release into the GYE. The birth is seen as a significant milestone for the species' long-term survival. Biologists confirmed the birth during a routine radio-telemetry monitoring flight and captured photos of the bear and her offspring near the den site. The relocation effort involved two grizzlies being relocated from the Northern Continental Divide Ecosystem in 2024 and aims to improve genetic diversity between two of the country's largest grizzly populations in Montana and Wyoming. However, experts warn that the cub's survival is uncertain due to fluctuating cub survival rates.
