The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Philadelphia District has awarded a $21.6 million contract for dune and beachfill work in Sea Isle City and Upper Township’s Strathmere section. Norfolk Dredging Company of Chesapeake, Virginia has been awarded the contract for the project. The contract involves dredging, pumping and placing about 1.86 million cubic yards of sand from two borrow areas off Corsons Inlet and Townsends Inlet. The work is cost-controlled evenly with 50 percent federal funding and 50 percent non-federal funding.
