Diver Films Crabs ‘Decorating’ Themselves—And People Can’t Look Away

Australian diver named Jules Casey shared a video on Instagram of crabs ‘decorating’ themselves underwater. The video was viewed as one of the most fascinating ones ever seen. Oceana describes these crabs as the “master camouflagers” of the ocean, attaching seaweed, sponges, algae, and even tiny sea creatures to their shells as protection from predators. The decorations can also be used to make the crabs appear larger and more intimidating to larger predators. These crabs also use their decorations as a food source when other resources are low.
