The economic fallout from the Iran War is impacting the U.S. economy, particularly in Utah and across the country, according to new polling by Deseret News and University of Utah's Hinckley Institute of Politics. Diesel prices are currently at around $5.50 per gallon nationally as of late 2026, which is roughly $1 to $2 per gallon higher than a year ago. Fuel costs have risen steadily since the U.,S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February, and gas prices are now the highest they've been in four years. The survey also revealed a significant level of worry among respondents, with 80% of Utah participants and 79% of national respondents expressing at least somewhat concerned about the impact of the war’s impacts on the economy. The rising cost of goods was the top concern for both groups, with higher gas prices and job security being the next most prevalent economic concern. The public is also concerned about job security and stock market investments. The Utah Food Bank is finding ways to reduce the cost of food deliveries and is looking for efficiencies and is considering ways to cut costs and staff costs.
