Timo Werner, a German international who had only played 13 minutes for a year at RB Leipzig, helped the San Jose Earthquakes to a 2-0 win over Atlanta United FC. Werner had an assist 18 minutes into his debut match, helping the team continue their strong start to the season with a second consecutive shutout. The team's coach, Bruce Arena, praised Werner's mental toughness and ability to handle the pressure and perform well. Werner, who has 57 caps for Germany and 449 appearances in the Bundesliga and the Premier League, was signed through June 2028. The Earthquakes, who haven't had a winning record since 2013, are hoping to change this with the addition of Werner.
