Colvin Elementary in Wichita, Kan., is receiving a newly renovated lounge for teachers this school year. The renovation was led by New York City designer Robin de la Cruz and her group of four friends. Colvin Elementary was selected after members of the community voted for the school on the Wichita Public Schools Foundation’s website. This is the first school in Kansas to receive this honor. Latonia Kennedy, director of family and community engagement for Wichita Public schools, said the renovation will benefit both teachers and students. Brandt Wilson, program specialist with the Wichita public Schools Foundation, said it will support staff well-being and support students.
