US-based "pro-family" group, MassResistance, has worked with Senegalese activists pushing for a tougher anti-LGBT law in Senegal to discuss campaign strategy and mobilization tactics with them. The group, known for its work in the US pushing legislation against same-sex marriage and denouncing "the "transgender war on cultural norms", has been collaborating with Sen. Samm Jikko Yi, a network of Islamic and civil society organizations in Senegal, who argue that the existing provision in the penal code was too weak. This collaboration was not previously reported, but this is the first known case of a U.S. group assisting in the push for anti- LGBT legislation in Africa since President Donald Trump returned to power in 2025. The State Department has stated that Trump's approach to foreign assistance ensures taxpayer dollars are not used on divisive social and gender issues.
