Dr. Joan Ridley (Felicity Huffman) made major decisions on her last day at Westside, including naming her replacement as chief resident. She met with candidates and made Michael (Omar Metwally) pitch himself for the position, but sold it to Max (Darrin Baker) for another. As chief resident, Joan chose Amy (Molly Parker) and Sonya (Anya Banerjee), and made them co-chief residents. She also expressed concerns about Amy's pursuit of the position due to her dissatisfaction with being an intern and her desire to teach those with "inferior knowledge". Despite these challenges, Huffman remains committed to her role and believes Amy is not quite ready to take it.
