Paragon Corp, Indonesia's largest cosmetics firm, founded by dermatologist and deputy CEO, is expanding its range of 14 halal beauty brands into the Middle East and aims to break into Europe and the Americas. The company, which received the 2024 Deloitte Award as one of Indonesia’s Best Managed Companies, aims to create a halal supply chain that can be profitable. The global halal cosmetics market is expected to exceed $50 billion in 2025. Paragon's CEO, Sari, shares his personal journey to redefine the meaning of halal Beauty for a global marketplace. He explains that halal is not just about raw material compliance but also about ethical beauty or an ethical way of making a product. There is some debate about how much alcohol can be permitted for cosmetics still to be halal, with ethanol being permitted for the halal council's approval for the use of ethanol in the manufacture of ethanol as a beauty product.
