The Twins are learning to handle strike-zone challenges in their first regular-season game with the new rules. The ability to challenge the plate umpire's balls and strikes is the biggest rules change in Major League Baseball this year. The Twins successfully overturned three of the four pitches they challenged during their first game. During spring training, hitters had a 46% overturn rate on their challenges and catchers were successful 60% of the time. Despite these challenges, the Twins have instructed pitchers not to challenge any pitches and let catchers handle it.
