Yahoo Scout has revealed that a $100 million lawsuit filed by California's Governor Gavin Newsom against celebrities including Nick Shirley, Willie Nelson, and several celebrities that supposedly collapsed after whistleblower testimony was made up by a network of foreign-run Facebook pages and websites managed out of Vietnam. The fake story was found to be true, with nearly identical versions of the claim made on Facebook about at least 14 people, including a post by the Whispered Praise page. A Google search revealed no credible evidence that such lawsuits were filed by Newsom. The Vietnam connection is significant as fact checkers have identified a major source of AI-generated false stories coming from a single operation based in that country.
