Supporters of a controversial rezoning effort in Lakewood, Colorado, have outraised opponents by a 5-to-1 ratio in a special election that could repeal the measures. The issue committee supporting the rezononing measures has raised about $200,000 since the start of the year, while three committees opposing the changes have raised just under $40,000. The pro-rezoning side has received significant contributions from developers, including $10,000 from Cardel Homes and $50,000 by Boulder-based Conscience Bay. The top donor on the repeal side was Action Now Initiative, a Houston-based nonprofit advocacy organization. The rezoned code allows diverse housing stock anywhere in the city, limits new home sizes to 5,000 square feet, and encourages conversion of vacant or underused commercial buildings to housing.
